How Daniel Boone Surveyed Land

Salt Lick Creek crosses the State of Kentucky
There are a number of affidavits in Mason County, Kentucky which provide some interesting information about how he located land for surveying and what happened to it.  One such affidavit dated June of 1796 was taken while he was "on the path leading from Keith Mill to the Salt Works at Salt Lick Creek which hath old blazes and some old pictures of blazes."  In 1779, Boone was standing at said blazed trees and there was an Indian camp nearby.  At that time, he located some 3000 acres for Nathaniel Hart where the Indian camp was, which he surveyed.  The entry was surveyed for the heirs of Nathaniel Hart, deceased.  Hart, having made a verbal provision with Daniel Boone for his heirs,  settled on this land.  The wills, estates, affidavits, etc. are posted on Kentucky Pioneers under Mason County.  Anyone who had ancestors in Kentucky during the early days would do well to read all of these transactions, as they replete with interesting details.
