Where to Find Stories of your Ancestors

Everyone has a colorful family history. It simply needs to be found.  If we knew some of these stories, or that we have better stories than the history books, wouldn't we start digging for our ancestors? It is just like today.  People struggle through many trials along the path of life. When we hear of one, we compare it to our own. Wouldn't you love to know how your grandparents were affected by history and how they dealt with the issues of their day?  There are stories of immigration, war, oppression, freedom, bravery, struggle and joy. Over 3,211,068 fought in the Civil War.  Likewise, there are many dramas of the past which included a large portion of the population. The Revolutionary War Pension of Hugh McDonald contains a statement where a redcoat had him pinned to the ground, with a sword at his throat. He tells of how the redcoat spared his life.  The old pensions contain wonderful stories like this.  Another place to find great stories is in the old wills and estates.
