Warren County Probate Records

Pictured is Bowling Green, Kentucky. The history of Warren County dates back to several Native American villages and burial mounds. General Elijah Covington was one of the first land owners. McFaddens Station was established as early as 1785 on the northern bank of the Barren River at Cumberland Trae. by Andrew McFadden. Warren County was established in 1796 and was named after General Joseph Warren of Revolutionary War fame as haviing dispatched William Dawes and Paul Revere on the famous midnight ride. Warren also fought at the Battle of Bunker Hill.

Shelby County was formedn 1792 and was named for Isaac Shelby, the first Governor of Kentucky. The county seat is Shelbyville.

Shawnees During the Revolutionary War

The battles of the Revolutionary War did not always involve Redcoats. The British engaged many Indian tribes to engage the patriots in battle. For this reason, Lawrence Conner enlisted in the Virginia Company of Captain Arbuckle for two years to go on an expedition against the Shawnee Indians. Before the first enlistment ended, he re-enlisted for three years, serving as a private in the company of Catain Andrew Wallace, 12th Virginia Regiment. He fought in the battles of Germantown, Monmouth, Stony War and Camden. Because of the wounds which he received at Camden and also during the battle of Guilford Court House, in 1789 he was sent home in Botetourt County, Virginia. Later he removed to Cumberland County, Kentucky where he died in 1828.

Jefferson County Probate Records

Jefferson County was organized in 1780 and one of the first three counties to be formed out Virginia at the time (the other two being Fayette and Lincoln). The county is named for Thomas Jefferson, who was governor of Virginia at the time.

Hardin County Probate Records

Hardin County was established in 1793 from land given by Nelson County and was named after Colonel John Hardin, an officer in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Courthouse fires destroyed county records in 1864 and again in 1932
